Your at-home kit includes everything you need to complete the required labs from the privacy of your space, with clear instructions that guide you through each sample. It’s designed to be quick, straightforward, and supportive so you can stay on track with your care and move smoothly toward your prescription.
Blood tests

Blood tests that help confirm PrEP is right for you

Your kit includes a simple finger-prick blood test that screens for Hep B, Creatinine, and HIV. These labs are required for anyone starting or continuing PrEP because they help your clinician confirm that PrEP is safe for you and that your body is processing the medication correctly.

You’ll also complete a yearly syphilis test as a routine check for another common STI. You’ll use a Dried Blood Spot (DBS) card for your samples. Fill each circle completely to the edges and be sure the blood soaks through to the back before moving to the next spot.

Pack Everything Back Into the Box
Place all samples back in their biohazard bags, then return everything in the original box and put the box into the prepaid envelope. Keeping everything sealed and packed the way it came protects your samples during shipping and helps the lab receive them safely and on time.

Once you’re prescribed PrEP, you open the door for someone in your community who doesn’t have insurance to receive the same care. Returning your test kit and completing your visit isn’t just about starting your own protection. It’s what allows Healthvana to cover the cost of PrEP, lab testing, and telehealth for someone who otherwise wouldn’t have access. Your follow-through helps two people at once: you, and someone who needs it.

What’s next

A few simple steps happen after you return your kit so your care can continue without interruption.

Why lab tests are needed every 3 months

Lab tests help determine if PrEP is safe for you (it is for most people!). Remaining HIV-negative and monitoring kidney health are some of the key areas being screened. An added benefit is regular STI screening, which helps support and protect your overall sexual health.
IMPORTANT
Important information about
your HIV and STI testing
Please note that this kit doesn’t cover every STI. Some people also get tested for additional infections like Hepatitis C as part of their regular sexual-health care.

HIV testing is voluntary. The purpose of the HIV test is to check for an HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection, since PrEP is only safe and effective for people without HIV.  You have the right to decline or refuse the HIV test, or to withdraw your consent at any time before you collect your HIV sample. However, if you choose not to be tested for HIV and your HIV status is unknown, we will not be able to prescribe PrEP. If your result is positive, linkage to effective medical and psychological care is available, and even after a negative result, routine testing remains important.
